TOPPAN Packaging’s Torres will lead a session titled ‘What Future-Ready Packaging Looks Like’
CHICAGO – As packaging regulations continue to evolve, manufacturers and brand owners face a critical question: How can today’s packaging decisions remain viable tomorrow?
Industry expert Astrid Torres, Senior Manager of Global Sustainability at TOPPAN Packaging, will address that challenge during a presentation at PACK EXPO’s Sustainability Central on October 20 at 11:00 a.m. in Chicago. Her session will offer practical insight into how companies can make packaging decisions that support compliance, performance, and long-term sustainability.
With Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws, post-consumer recycled content mandates, and shifting sustainability expectations reshaping the packaging landscape, organizations can no longer plan only for what is required today. Future-ready packaging must balance circularity, compliance, product protection, operational efficiency, and consumer expectations.
“The challenge is not simply meeting today’s standards – it is building resilience into packaging systems so they can adapt as regulations, markets, and consumer demands continue to evolve.”

During the session, Torres will explore what defines a truly future-ready packaging system and share real-world examples from across flexible packaging, paper-based solutions, and rigid formats. Attendees will gain guidance for evaluating material choices, preparing for emerging regulations, and identifying opportunities that can deliver both sustainability progress and business value.
“The challenge is not simply meeting today’s standards – it is building resilience into packaging systems so they can adapt as regulations, markets and consumer demands continue to evolve,” Torres said.
